Oh no…this can't be happenening…

Okay, I am not getting this. I went through 3 rounds of Chemo earlier this year and not once had any signs or symptoms of the flu. When my numbers were at their lowest I still managed to work and shop and occasionally ride the train while avoiding the nasties. Just when we are so busy at work getting our new site ready to be launched…when being at work is imperative…here I go and wake up feeling achy and running a fever. I was so looking forward to my venture to Kroger this weekend and now it is looking like hubby will be going on his own. That spells disaster right there! Though he is on board with the couponing and living frugal, he isn’t the most patient man in the world so I can’t at all see him carrying my coupons or my binder and going on a bargain hunt. Blah…I don’t like this at all :(

This is why I love my Ipod!!

Podcasting…what an awesome discovery!! Thanks to my Ipod, I have discovered many wonderful blogs on couponing, frugal living, saving our planet, recipes and so much more!!
I ride the train to work every morning and as train rides go, they can be pretty boring. Well, one day I decided to plug in my Ipod, go to the Itunes site & search the word “Frugal” and what I downloaded was a ton of “blogtalkers” with so much fun & interesting information!! The things that I am most passionate about in my life…God, my family, friendships & FRUGAL living!! Anything to save a bit of that hard earned money that seems to never stick around long enough. I came across a blogger that really sparked my interest. Her blog site is called Kingdom First Mom. Her blogtalk radio show is called “Keeping It Centsible”. The first show I just happen to listen to was about clipping coupons & CVS! I am going to learn so many more money saving tips that my hubby can be a stay at home dad for good! (I would love it, he would hate it!) Okay, so through that site, I have found Texas Couponers Anonymous – sounds like a group I should be in…LOL. My list of awesome sites, bloggers & tweeters could go on for days and I will begin to add buttons and links as I have time but for anyone visiting my site, just click on one of the links above and from there, you will find a whole world of money saving adventures!!

Well, enough for now…I must go sign up for some freebies before bed. Have a great night everyone!!

Hugs~

Back in the swing of things…almost!

I decided to venture out on my own last Saturday with my binder and shopping list in tow. I gave hubby a reprieve this particular day because I wanted to take my time and be able to look for bargains. With him, grocery shopping is a race to see how fast we can get done and get to the check out so he doesn’t miss anything on weekend TV. I needed some “me” time to get back in the groove of couponing. It didn’t take too long and if I do say so myself, I didn’t do all that bad! Before coupons, my total was $173.00 but what I paid OOP was only $99.30!! A savings of almost $74.00 and hopefully enough food to last us at least 2 weeks minus a few things we always run out of!

Oh, and last Friday we had to stop by Sack & Save to pick up some prescriptions and as always, hubby was in a hurry to get done and get out. I insisted we take the “long” way and walk the outer perimeter of the store which he will probably do from now on considering we picked up 3 nice steaks for 50% off what they would have cost! For us, that is at least 3-5 meals for less than $10.00! In fact, we are having steak for dinner tonight! I love a good bargain…

Forced to be frugal?

I have been an avid coupon shopper for many years but it seems I always let life interfere in one way or another. A few years back, I discovered The Grocery Game and I was hooked! I went straight to Target for my binder & baseball card holders and started clipping away. I lurked around the forums for hints and tips but really never got that whole “basement” stockpile going. I did well enough to be able to help out a friend when she had no money or food to feed her children and I was able to donate some things to the Hurricane victims, which was extremely gratifying to me.

At the end of 2008, New Years Eve to be exact, I was diagnosed with Lymphoma so everything was put on hold. I went through 4 months of Radiation & Chemo and am now very happy to say I am in remission but it did put many things in my life on the back burner for a while. Even after that, I rarely thought much about couponing until that dreaded day in August that my husband lost his job. Boy did that really open my eyes to the ways we had been wasting things! When we had 2 incomes, we didn’t often bat an eye at stopping for fast food or wasting a little extra gas to take the girls and their friends to the mall and back several times a month or up to the church every day last Summer so that they could help out with the Youth room that was being renovated. Don’t get me wrong, I have always been conscious of things like leaving TVs or lights on when someone left a room. That is a never ending tail chasing event in my house. I am always walking behind my husband or kids turning off lights…ugh! I have managed to gather hints & tips to cut my electricity bill though and I have faith that I will rub off on them eventually!
Now that things have changed around our house and we are having to learn to be a bit frugal, I have turned it in to a positive thing. My husband and I do the grocery shopping together and seeing how much we can save each week is really a lot of fun. It is becoming a challenge to see what we can get for next to nothing. He is more aware of money now too. That is a God send!! His job loss was bitter sweet because we lost an income but the girls and I have gained their daddy back! Having my husband home at night is something we have really been missing. I am hoping that he realizes what he missed out on working nights and when he finds his next job, he will insist on working days so we can continue to learn & grow as a family…together…no matter what obstacles we have to face.
