Simple Sunday Twitter Hop
Something new for me this Sunday and many more Sunday’s I suppose…I’m Twitter Hopping tonight! Thanks mostly in part to the massive headache I have had for going on 24 hours now…it won’t let me sleep and nothing seems to bring relief so what better to do than to sit in a dark, quite room and hop, hop, hop!! Okay, well I’m not literally hopping but if this has sparked your interest in the least, click in the button below to see what it’s all about…and be sure that if you aren’t already following me on Twitter, you follow FRUGALQPONMOM first!!!
It’s time for school clothes shopping…frugal style!!
It’s that time again…school starts in just 2 weeks and it’s time to think about new clothes for my daughters. I guess I should have been thinking about it many weeks ago but it’s just too hot outside and there is just not money to spare – with me, there is ALWAYS something keeping me from fighting the crowds and dropping a big chunk of change on clothing, shoes and supplies. The only benefit this year I guess is that one of my girls will be starting college so I will only have to technically shop for one this time go round. (Yeah, yeah, don’t remind me…tuition and books and yes, the older one still needs to go to classes with her supplies and with clothes on! I haven’t forgotten her. I just think hers is a little different now that she is more “grown up”. ) Seems we are procrastinators at its best! Anyway, my 15 year old has been telling me she wants to go to a place where we can get nice things at a very inexpensive price. I hear the commercials all the time and I have even heard my friend talk about the place a time or two so I am sure we will find some great deals there. It is called Plato’s Closet and they have many locations all over the U.S. In fact, there are a couple close to us so what we don’t find at one, we may find at another. The way Plato’s Closet works is like this:
| Bring in your gently used brand name clothing and accessories. | |
| While you check out the latest styles in the store, the buyer will review your items. | |
| The buyer will create an offer based on style, condition, brand and the store’s current stock levels. | |
| Once you accept the offer, you’ll be on your way with some extra cash or a hot new outfit (or two)! |
Now this doesn’t mean you HAVE to bring something in to shop there but hey, wouldn’t it be a great way to make a little extra cash on the side as well? I like this idea a lot! Since my girls outgrow their clothes so quickly or styles (in their minds) change often – “it’s been worn once mom, I can’t wear it again” or “my friend has a dress just like it, I will never be seen in it again”, maybe you have heard the lines…Plato’s Closet sounds like a great way to “trade in” one thing for another.
“At Plato’s Closet® you’ll find a huge selection of trendy, designer styles as well as those every day basics you can’t live without – all at up to 70% off mall retail prices!
Most of our stores buy and sell girls sizes 0/1 to 15/16 and guys size 28 to 40 waist. However, please check with your local store as sizes may vary.
We’re not your typical secondhand clothing store. The gently used clothing and accessories that we buy are: top-name brands, cool, hip, trendy, and clean. Typically we buy items that have been in the retail stores within the past 12 to 18 months.
Check with your local store for their specific buying standards as well as hours of operation and buying hours as these vary somewhat by location.

They have a Facebook page as well as a “Style Blog” so check them out and then go one step further and visit a Plato’s Closet near you! If you have shopped at a Plato’s Closet please leave a comment letting me know your experience. If there are any tips or tricks we should know about before we visit, we would love to know!
Thanks!!
Hulu vs. Dish Network…a future choice in the making
Okay, since hubby has not found a job as of 11 months ago and it appears he will now longer be eligible for unemployment extensions, that it is time for some changes around our home. We explored a few ideas such as losing our land line but because of our security alarm we have to keep but we can get rid of Dish Network and that $74.00 a month bill very easily with a nice little website called Hulu. I did a bit of exploring around Hulu today and found tons of television shows that we love to watch or at least I love to watch and will gladly watch on the computer rather than on a television. I am seriously thinking what is the television good for anymore? Comment me please and tell me what can my television do for me that my computer cannot do or provide. Just a comparison please. I know I may not get to watch the most up to date episodes of a program but eventually I will get caught up. I understand that not every show is on Hulu but there are other places on the net to watch these other programs such as the network sites. So what do you use in your home? We have 3 computers in our homes plus a Wii that is connected to our wireless network that has internet. We haven’t tried to access Hulu.com with the Wii just yet but if it works, the Wii will go in the big tv room for my hubby to watch his shows on. The girls and I are fine watching on our computers. So what do you think?
I think I am going to watch some good old sitcoms as I drift off to sleep tonight and think about it some more. Comments appreciated!!
